Where to play?
Penguin City is a wonderful, new 3D slot machine from Yggdrasil Gaming. Like most slots from this software provider, the 3D graphics amplify the theme, set the mood and tell the tale of the game.
Players will find that the narrative revolves around a portion of a downtown city, Penguin City (think Chinatown) where bands of penguins come to dine on Chinese nosh. It’s all very silly stuff, but that is often what makes Yggdrasil’s slot stand out for the better. There is nothing – and we mean nothing – quite like this game available on the net.
How to play
Yggdrasil doesn’t generally permit players to adjust the paylines in their slots, and that is the case with this title. Very few slots with 243 lines spread over 5 reels will permit payline adjustments either way.
However, players are at liberty to flex their financial muscle via the coin values button. By doing so, players can expect to be able to wager anything from a base minimum of $0.10 per spin up to a capped maximum of $125 per spin on this game. Most 243 ways to win slots cost at least $0.25 per spin, so to get away with dirt cheap bets like this is going to make Penguin City an instant hit with players on a budget.
Wild symbols: These appear as blocks of text set against a Chinese background. These cube symbols can substitute for any other icons save for Emperor Penguin symbols. Wilds do, however, only show up on the second and fourth reels in the game.
Penguin Escape Bonus: Whenever a wild symbol features in a winning combo, the Penguin Escape Bonus will be triggered. Wilds will be locked into place for a handful of re-spins. Once no new winning spins occur, the wilds disappear. During that bonus, though, penguins will try and escape from the leftmost side of the reels. Extra wins and the ability to turn a losing spin into a winning one are dished out for every penguin which escapes.
Stacked Wild symbols: Stacked wilds only appear in the Penguin Escape Bonus, and they take on the appearance of Emperor Penguins. These stacked icons tend to crop up only on the third reel. When they do so, they’ll move down the reels one step per each spin. While the stacked wild is present, no penguins will try to escape. However, once he’s gone the penguins will resume their breakout attempt.
Penguin City contains a return to player (RTP) rate of 96.20%. This is about average for a modern video slot, and right on par with what we expect to find in Yggdrasil slots. The non-progressive jackpot is capped at 250x the total amount wagered, which is a handsome prize given how little the slot costs to play.
Quirky, comical and totally one-of-a-kind, there is much to like and adore about this latest release from Yggdrasil Gaming. Comedy aside, there are good winnings to be had, ample ways to win and cheap as chips bets.
