You’ve probably heard or attended one of the controversial Spanish bullfighting tournaments celebrated in most major cities in Spain and South America. In these tournaments an angry bull and a swordsman called Matador are faced in a duel, in which one of them will end up dead.
This concept of having a histrionic human fighting a wild beast is appealing to some, and ELK Studios took this as an inspiration to develop their most recent video-slot. Set on a 5-reel, 4-row basis, Toro and the matador Díaz Jr. will face a battle of death, while letting you win some coins on the way.
ELK Studios is a small and novel developing company, counting with barely 7 video-slots in their portfolio, all of them with a tendency to operate upon a high variance dynamic.
In the particular case of Wild Toro, they feature 178 ways of winning and a combination of well thought and theme inspired symbols such as Spanish bronze, silver and golden coins, as well as a dramatic red rose and a flamenco hand fan.
Toro and Díaz Jr. are also symbols themselves, and they are the only ones that allow wins when appearing twice on the reels. For the rest of the symbols, you need to get three or more of a kind in order to redeem one of the winning paylines. Also, keep in mind that this needs to be done starting at the leftmost reel.
There are a bunch of special features included in the game, such as the Toro Goes Wild feature in which a Wild Toro appearing on the rightmost reel will grant you with four free spins while Toro himself walks all the way to the leftmost reel and walks out of the grid.
Furthermore, the Matador Re-Spin Challenge is triggered whenever a Díaz Jr. symbol lands three or more times on the reels after a spin, granting you also with re spins based on the bet size that you had previously set up.
Finally, the best one of these special features gets triggered when Toro and Díaz Jr. land together on the reels. When this happens, Toro gets incredibly mad and starts chasing Díaz Jr., leaving a trace of Wild symbols behind them.
This feature ends once Díaz Jr. is out of the reels, and the paylines gotten –especially considering the number of Wild symbols that are granted to you by Toro- will be immediately added up and derived to your total wins.
What we loved
Despite the high variance of the game, most players will feel invited, since Wild Toro allows a bet size ranging from 0.20 all the way up to 100.00.
If you’re shy or on a budget, the minimum bet will be more than reassuring and comfortable to you.
Also, the main theme is very original and inviting, and we have to recognize ELK Studios originality concept-wise.
What we did not like
The game has a very high volatility and it works on a single layer set up. This might make some users get easily bored, especially if they are somewhat risk-averse or looking for rich multi-layered dynamics.
Wild Toro is one of our favorite slots released this year, and we do think that it is worth your time, effort and money.
If you get the chance of playing it at your favorite online casino, we advise you to walk in carefully and keeping the high variance in mind.
